Our featured wedding today is a lovely, natural and rustic beachy Cornwall wedding, for our bride Rosalind who married her husband Giles in August this year.

The ceremony took place at the idyllic St Enodoc Church in Trebetherick, followed by a reception at Dinham House Lawns, St Minver.

Rosalind wore Jesus Peiro 8070, a beautiful lace bodice and capped sleeves with a striking open back, paired with a simple full pocketed skirt.

We asked Rosalind to tell us all about her dress shopping experience, and the inspiration behind their wedding day.

Jesus Peiro 8070 contemporary wedding dress

I loved the waistband and the sheer lace body. Also loved the pockets! I had the lace back slightly changed from the original design – I didn’t want quite as much back on show so the lace went diagonally down to the waistband instead of straight down. I felt totally amazing wearing it. I’ve had to put it on again at home since the wedding because I love it so much. Also LOVED my veil which had a ribbon edging. I kept it on at the wedding until after dinner when the dancing started because I just loved wearing it!

Wedding Dress Shopping

My first visit I brought just my mum and we both loved, and kept thinking about after the appointment, what turned out to be THE dress. I came back a month later with 2 of my 4 bridesmaids when it was the Peiro trunk show. I told them that I had 2 favourites, but not which dresses they were and I put on lots of different ones to show them. Once I put on THE one their faces lit up into amazing smiles and I just knew it was the dress for me.

My first appointment was the first wedding shop I’d been to and so the first time I’d ever put a wedding dress on so that was amazing fun! Corrine was so friendly and honest, and I spent well over an hour having an amazing time trying on all shapes and designs. The chapel makes such a special place to try on beautiful dresses. I also loved my final appointment when I then took the dress home. It was the first time I was wearing it fitting perfectly with the veil and shoes on. Also my sister came with me to this for the first time (she lives abroad) and burst into tears when she saw me in the full outfit!

Styling

I have the I Am Florence gold glittery heels which you use in the chapel. When I came back for my second appointment and saw them I knew immediately that I had to have them as I love gold and knew I wanted fun heels! As my dress had a relatively high neckline, and patterned lace I didn’t wear a necklace, instead I wore more statement earrings which I borrowed from my mum. They were a gold disk with a blue sapphire in the middle and little diamonds embedded around the sapphire. These were my something old, borrowed & blue!! I also had a pair of personalised Converse trainers that my bridesmaids gave me on  my hen do! There were essential as I had to walk through a cow field, and across a golf fairway, to get from the car to the church.

A rustic beachy Cornwall wedding

We wanted a country/beachy/rustic vibe to suit the settings – hay bales outside the marquee type. I knew I wanted the bridesmaid dresses to be navy blue, and I wanted to use the bunting my cousin had made for her wedding (which was patterns of pink, blue, cream and green) so everything else developed from these 2 things. We met with the florist and discussed my favourite flowers and colours. I knew I didn’t want big table displays as sharing platters of food is our style, & that of the caterer we used, so table space was needed. We agreed the flower arrangement on each table would look great in a small, wooden crate. The main flowers were to be bright blue delphiniums and pale pink roses, with Sea Holly (Cornwall’s thistle) a must as well. My bouquet was to match the table flowers which also matched the main feature flowers in the arch outside the church and inside, and the maids’ bouquets to have all the cream/white flowers and greenery used in mine. The water glasses were blue to add an extra splash of colour to the place settings. I copied an idea from my sister’s friend’s wedding to use an old wooden ladder hanging from the roof of the marquee with foliage and tea lights hanging from it to create a fitting centre piece. We had some soft seating in one corner of the marquee and to match the rustic vibe we used wicker conservatory furniture which was in my family’s home. We presented the table plan on a wooden pallet that I had painted and hung bunting on, so again not ‘fancy’.

The best bits

It’s so hard to choose one favourite part! I LOVED the confetti line – walking hand in had with my new husband through all of our family and friends cheering and smiling. As a surprise the ushers also created a guard of honour using golf clubs because Giles is a mad golfer and we were of course in the middle of the course! We then continued our walk across the golf course and down onto the beach where hundreds of holidaymakers were enjoying the sunshine. We got a few congratulatory comments but most people were very British saying nothing, just staring at us and the videographer & photographer looking confused!!

Advice from the bride

When you start dress shopping try on everything! You never know what might suit you and you might actually really like. It’s like no other dress you’ve ever worn! Also make sure that the people who you take dress shopping with you will be totally honest and not say that everything looks good!! I valued and trusted every word my mum and maids said. When it comes to the day itself don’t stress if things don’t quite go to plan/happen how you imagined because in reality it probably doesn’t matter that much, and you are the only person who knows what it should have been. Also make sure you have time to mingle during the drinks reception and don’t spend ages doing official photos. As my photographer wisely said to me “why spend 15 mins taking one shot when it can be done in 5!!” And finally get a video made so you can re-live it again and again and remember all the little details and see moments of the day you missed.
