I know there are no shortages of girl-squad members to join a bride on shopping trips for dresses. I also know, too, that partners can be very reluctant to give up leisure time to ‘do the rounds’ of ‘wedding fayres.’

If you have a Reluctant Partner that doesn’t want to go to a wedding fayre let alone one being staged in a bridal shop, then The Marquee in Winter event may sound as appealing as root canal.

I have compiled a short list of compelling reasons do convince said ‘RP’ to come as a fact-finding mission with elements they may even enjoy!

1. It’s Miss Bush.

We don’t have a shop we have a cool Chapel that is good to look at anyway! We are also in Ripley village with six pubs for the RP to escape quite quickly!

2. We have a cocktail bar.

Hosted by Tom from The Cocktail Service, our bar will offer the chance to talk bespoke mixology for your wedding while sampling their wares.

3. We have cake.

If all else fails to grab your attention you can lurk at the cake station with Fen from Monannie Cakes and carb load!

4. We have men.

If your RP is a man and worried it will be a ‘girls’ night out’ reassure them there will be other men! Clearly a Miss Bush event is nothing without Marshy but you have Ian from Inside Outside Marquees, Will from Luminaire Events, Tom from Creations Media, Tom from The Cocktail Service, the band from ALR Music… Good company regardless of gender is on the cards!

5. We have presents.

The gift list is something that a RP wants to get involved in. Talk to The Wedding Present Company and make sure that you will love your wedding presents ‘as long as you both shall live’ and ‘forsaking all gift receipts.’

6. We have facts.

There is a Q&A where you can cut through the fluff and get to the facts. Ask the professional wedding panel anything; challenge their knowledge and learn from their expertise.

7. We have break-out spaces.

There is fashion, but if the RP is not a fan they can take to the marquee, drink and canape in hand, and talk to Two Many Cooks about food.

8. We have geeks.

If you have a tech head for a partner get them to take time to talk to our photographer Katrina Bartlam, our videographer Tom Sassi from Creations Media about shooting in artificial light and with flash at a winter wedding.

9. We talk logistics.

If your partner doesn’t know their buttonhole from their bud vase and isn’t going to prioritise the finer design details, then you may want them to focus on the real practicalities. Site access, marquee build, furniture, equipment hire and contingency plans are all being covered. Everyone from Jenna Hewitt to Wedhead, Brolly Buckets to Couvert will be able to clue you in to the practicalities not the peonies. 10. We will surprise you.

The ‘pretty’ might surprise and delight the RP. If it does, then your partner has just found themselves in the ‘guest experience zone.’ Beautiful visuals, thoughtful touches and welcoming vibes are less tangible than a glass of wine or a tasty canape. Marion, from Kingfisher Farm Shop, enhances the Michelin Star dining experience at Sorrel in Dorking with her incredible installations, and guests always leave happy from a wedding with Ellie’s calligraphy in hand. Hosting, nurturing and caring for you guests is an art form you feel, and wedding planners are looking to provide a multi-sensory experience. It’s not rocket science, its party science, less maths – more magic!
