Catriona tells us more about their day, and her journey to finding her Jesus Peiro dress…
Jesus Peiro 7016 minimalist wedding dress
“I wore Jesus Peiro 7016, a simple deep v neck dress made from beautiful crepe. I was determined to find a stylish, elegant and timeless dress. I really didn’t want something fussy or traditionally lacey. I basically wanted an amazing red carpet dress rather than a wedding dress. I was also on a budget and after alot of research into the high street and second hand dresses I decided a sample dress was the way to go. I visited Miss Bush with my sister for her wedding dress two years ago so I knew it was the place to find my dress during a sample sale. I loved my dress and wish I could wear it again! I felt so happy wearing it on the day, it was super comfortable as well as making me feel a million dollars. I danced the night away in it, including a couple of ceilidh dances!
Dress Shopping
I bought my Mum and my sister to the Chapel for all my appointments and my mother in law to one of the fittings. We’d meet in the lovely coffee shop next door and then nip down the road for yummy lunch at The Anchor. An added bonus! They all loved my dress and thought it was very ‘me.’
Styling
I always knew I didn’t want a veil but I didn’t have a clear idea of what I wanted until I saw the dress fitted properly. I thought because the dress was so simple I needed something bold. But I don’t really wear big earrings or necklaces anymore so I went for a bold shape in my earrings instead. I also had no idea what to do with my hair but decided to wait until my trial with AMM Makeup in Scotland the week of the wedding. I’m so glad I did. Anne Marie was fab, she tried loads of looks and tried various accessories. I was keen to try a ponytail because I always lust after the perfect red carpet ponytails. Anne Marie then suggested putting a ribbon in my hair and I loved it. It’s not something I would’ve thought about but it completed my look. My shoes were KG and ridiculously comfy as well as stylish, white and in budget. I first wore them for my hen do and then I’ve worn them about 5 times over the summer which makes me happy. I also decided to accessorize with my make up by going big on eye makeup and false eyelashes, something I’ve always done so I felt like me.
A relaxed wedding in Scotland
We wanted a relaxed wedding and didn’t want lots of speeches or a first dance or hours long couple photo shoot. Instead we met before the wedding just us and watched our guests arrive from the window, we had a ceilidh to open the dance floor which everyone loved and Andy and I did a speech together on the steps of Broadmeadows. We’re not religious so wanted something tailored to us which is really easy to do in Scotland as you can say anything you want! So we braved an outdoor wedding in the gardens of Broadmeadows. We lucked out and it was a gloriously sunny week in Scotland. The rest of the styling was really fun, keeping it relaxed and colourful. We had flowers from a local flower farm, collected bottles for vases and candles holders, balloons for table numbers; basically we picked stuff we liked and hoped it would all fit together! Luckily my mother in law and sister in law are crafty so they helped me plan to do it all ourselves. It really turned into a family affair with everyone pitching in to help. I was also really lucky to have some wonderful friends to help in the week and the day itself.
The Best bits
I just wish I could relive the whole thing exactly as it was! It was awesome and I really loved having our friends and family altogether to celebrate.
