We would be lying if we said that we didn't have a little bit of a 'girl crush' on today's featured bride, Emily! Jesus Peiro 8042 ruffle shoulder wedding dress

I chose the Jesus Piero 8042. For a bride that originally didn't want a wedding dress, to then thinking I wanted a slinky bohemian number ( my everyday style is not bohemian AT ALL!!) to not wanting a 'big dress', when I saw a photo of the dress I instantly thought 'that is so me!'.

I immediately loved the silhouette of the big ruffles, the nipped in waist, the dramatic pleats in the skirt and how the cut of the back and under arms kept everything very modern. I also loved how the simple yet luxurious cotton fabric just let the silhouette of the dress sing, it didn't need sparkle or any bits and pieces, it was unapologetically all about the shape.

I felt so fabulous wearing it, I felt like the best version of me. On the day I loved the pockets and used these to carry my vow book, sixpence, handkerchief and lipstick! At no point did I feel like the dress was wearing me, it was light, easy to dance in and I even crowd surfed in it!! (whilst keeping all my dignity!!).

I bought my Mum and my bridesmaid Laura with me to Miss Bush, they both loved the dress as soon as I came out in it. I was also undecided between another Jesus Piero dress but they both knew I would go for this one!

Dress Shopping

My favourite part of dress shopping was my first visit to the chapel, it was such a special experience to have the chapel all to ourselves and browse all the amazing dresses without any pressure or any hurry. Corinne was ever so lovely from the first moment we met her, she listened to my wedding plans and look for the day and made suggestions of different dresses to try, it was like having another friend shopping with you.

I also really enjoyed talking to Emma, working in the fashion industry myself I really appreciated Emma's knowledge of not just the bridal industry but of what was happening in fashion as well, it gave me real confidence in what I was choosing was not only beautiful and elegant but modern and current as well.

One of my favourite things about my first appointment was that not everything was 'lovely', the girls didn't say that every dress was perfect for me, I really had honest, no nonsense opinions, all the while being in such a kind and friendly environment.

Styling

I styled my dress with gold, flower earrings from Oscar de la Renta, and a simple tulle veil also bought from Miss Bush.

Designing for Jimmy Choo I was very generously allowed to create my own wedding shoes, in the end I went for an existing style, Sacora 100 but changed the heel from a stiletto to a chunky heel, I also had metal lettering on the soles saying, E heart M on one shoe and our wedding date on the other. I knew I didn't want anything sparkly but still wanted special, precious details.

I had planned to pin some fresh flowers in my hair but it was such a whirlwind leaving for the wedding I completely forgot!.. but I think in the end that was a good thing as looking back at the photos I love the simplicity of the look from the back.

A natural, elegant Wick Bottom Barn wedding

Our whole day was inspired by our venue, Wick Bottom Barn. It is a beautiful, rustic barn set in the middle of rolling hills and countryside, there is nothing around for miles and I wanted to create a magical, secret party kind of atmosphere, like a party you had just happened to stumble upon. We wanted everything to be natural and bucolic but elegant at the same time.

I think visually the lighting at the barn pulled everything together, we had a big fairy canopy put up in the ceiling of the barn and festoon lighting outside the barn and around the fencing, Paul from Lighting Fantastic did the most brilliant job!

Other than my bouquet we arranged all of the flowers ourselves the day before the wedding, Sara from My Flower Patch supplied us with the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen, she grows them all in Wiltshire and completely exceeded our expectations. We had so many colours, textures and shapes, I mixed these with posies of dried flowers I had arranged before the wedding day.

I worked on all the stationary myself, I taught myself calligraphy and just dived in and made bits here and there in the years run up before the wedding, in the end I made the invites, place settings, order of service and signage for the day. I absolutely loved doing it all and am so pleased how it turned out.

My dad is a carpenter and made all the wooden elements at our wedding, he made our alter which we decorated in foliage and a beautiful oak card box. My uncle is also a carpenter and made us a beautiful swing that we decorated with flowers and had for our guests to sit on outside.

The wedding cake was also a big element of the day, my mum is a wedding cake maker so always knew she wanted to create something really special for my wedding. She made us the most fabulous five tier cake, with sugar flowers in-between each tier. Looking at the cake it looks like real flowers but every flower was made from sugar and individually coloured by my mum. They also matched perfectly to the fresh flowers from Sara!

For our evening disco Michael put a playlist together which kept everyone dancing all night!.... it really was everyone coming together with their talents to help create the most dreamy day!

The best bits

I really cant choose a favourite part! Seeing Michael at the top of the aisle was very special, we also got everyone to sing 'I love you baby' at the end of the ceremony as a surprise to our guests which I really loved. We both enjoyed going off with our photographers Ruth and Thom to have photos taken as it gave us a breather from the day and some quiet time together. I loved the speeches and dancing all night.... I really cant choose a favourite!

Emily's Advice

Enjoy the planning of the wedding, at first I was overwhelmed by the thought of spending such a lot of money on one day but actually its more than the day itself its also the lead up as well. I will always treasure the memories I have making flowers with my mum, trying out the disco playlist on a weekend away with friends, days spent with my bridesmaids and all of the excited conversations we had with family and friends in the eighteen months leading up to the wedding.  
 
Work with suppliers that you love, it was a pleasure working with all our suppliers and because we were doing everything ourselves and didn't have a wedding planner or on the day co-ordinator meant we had to really trust our suppliers! Peter and Jurgita from Vaughns Kitchen did such a great job in making sure the day went smoothly so we could just enjoy everything. Also our photographer Ruth Atkinson and her husband Thom took the most wonderful photographs and were so lovely to have with us on the day.

Weather!...We had planned to have an outdoor ceremony but after a week of the forecast promising a lovely dry day, the evening before the wedding the forecast changed to heavy rain due for well into the wedding ceremony. We decided to have the ceremony inside the barn with a curtain separating the ceremony space and reception space. I was worried it would look cobbled together and a bit of a mess but actually even though the rain had stopped an hour before the ceremony was due to start I am glad we had it inside the barn, all our guests could hear us, no one was getting sun burnt or wind swept and we had some really atmospheric photos! After the ceremony everything dried up and we had lovely drinks and canapes outside! So try not to stress and worry, as long as you have a wet and dry plan everything will be ok! (Trust me I never believed this advice until it happened!).
