We are so pleased to share Helen and Bobbie's wonderful Scottish wedding with you, which took place at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh. Set in beautiful, natural setting, the day was relaxed and fun, with an intimate ceremony followed by a fun reception complete with high energy Ceilidh dancing!

Helen wore Jesus Peiro's striking 264 short lace wedding dress - one of our favourite's from the 2021 Amalia collection! The dress is made from a cotton guipoure lace with a unique geometric pattern, with long sleeves accentuated by bold shoulders and a high neckline. Helen styled her dress with a chic low up do and statement blue heels. We loved Helen's personalised Converse trainers, which she changed into for the evening dancing - so cute!

Jesus Peiro 264 short lace wedding dress

Adored it!!! I had in my head that I’d prefer a short dress and something less bridal and more ‘fashiony’. It just felt so fun to wear, a little bit sexy but elegant. I didn’t want to take it off! To be honest once I tried it on I knew nothing else would come close. The fabric was beautiful and an added bonus was that the designer is Spanish…my mum’s side of the family is Spanish and I’d said to her early on it would be lovely to weave a little bit of something Spanish into the day.

I brought my mum with me, and she really wasn’t sure right up until the final fitting because it was short and not what she pictured me in. We are super close so it felt a bit strange knowing she didn’t love it. The minute I put it on on my wedding day she cried and said she couldn’t believe she’d doubted my choice, she absolutely loved and said she was so glad I hadn’t listened to her! I’m naturally a very easy going person and normally prefer to make others happy but I’m so glad I stuck to my guns and went with the dress I loved!

Dress Shopping at Miss Bush

Emma and team were lovely. The initial visit was so fun…Emma really listened to what I wanted but also made me try on a real variety to make sure I was sure. It was like playing dress up for a couple of hours. She knew her stuff and encouraged to pick the dress that made me feel good. The Chapel itself felt very special and I only went to one other shop (as I knew this was the one) but Miss Bush had the most wonderful mix of traditional styles and more eclectic choices. I doubt any Bride would struggle to find her ideal dress there.

Styling

I had bare legs (brave choice in Edinburgh in October) and wore my favourite shoes, a pair of L K Bennett, pale blue, suede stilettos, which doubled up as my something old and something blue. Due to the intricate fabric I kept jewellery simple…a few silver bracelets and fairly large silver hoops, with nothing in my hair, which was just pinned up in a messy bun. Quick change into personalised wedding Converse trainers in the evening looked cool with the dress and were perfect for dancing.

A relaxed party wedding at Edinburgh Botanical Gardens

We both wanted a happy, relaxed and fun party for our wedding day. My husband is Scottish and he really wanted a Scottish wedding and my family and friends were absolutely delighted to head up for the celebrations. When we first visited the botanical gardens, which are in the heart of Edinburgh, we both instantly loved the calmness and natural beauty of the venue…there was minimal fuss and formality and it was such a lovely place for our guests to explore too.

The best bits

How to choose?! I loved the ceremony…it was really personal and you could honestly feel how happy everyone was for us. We are in our 40s and met late and genuinely feel incredibly lucky to have found each other and the day kind of summed up that happiness. Ceilidh dancing was also great fun and got everyone up onto the dance floor and mixing, setting the tone for the rest of the night, which was something Bobbie really wanted.

Helen's Advice

Enjoy the whole experience, don’t sweat the small stuff, wear the dress that you can’t wait to put on and won’t want to take off and remember the best bit is you’ll be married to your person at the end of it all.
