Set in the idyllic West Sussex countryside, Lucy & Roddy's simple and pretty Spring wedding is featured on our blog today. With a blue and white Cornish inspired colour palette and thoughtful, personal touches, the day was relaxed and special, with 400 year old venue Fitzleroi Barn providing the perfect picturesque backdrop.

Lucy's dress choice, 907 by Jesus Peiro, was the perfect look for her wedding day, with delicate capped sleeve lace bodice sitting above a romantic full skirt. Jesus Peiro's signature pockets added a relaxed, comfortable feel to the outfit, which Lucy styled with a gorgeous gilded Grecian style headband from Miss Clemmie Bridal Accessories.

Jesus Peiro 907 wedding dress

I originally thought I would get a very simple, flowing dress.

I absolutely adored all the dresses I tried on, they were all very different styles so I was in of a pickle. I took my sister to help me choose, we decided on the Jesus Peiro 907 – I felt most comfortable wearing this dress, maybe it was the pockets!

I tried to the dress on with my mum (on her birthday) and then my sister went with me to make the final decision because I loved all the dresses I tried on equal amounts. I had my final fitting on the morning of my 30th birthday before heading to the South West for my hen party!

Dress Shopping

I loved trying on all the different styles, from the sleek simple dresses to the more extreme numbers covered in beads. The chapel is such an amazing setting to privately choose your dress with such friendly staff who make you feel at home.

I enjoyed visiting The Nest, a little cafe next door after each appointment for a treat of tea and cake.

Styling

I thought I wanted some simple floral hair pieces or flowers.

I had my make-up trial at the Miss Bush chapel, which was great to choose my accessories. After trying on many options I discovered many that I liked – I started picking up some hair bands to try on, I never thought I would actually get one but thought they looks fun to try on!
Then I feel in love with my crown and thought – why not!

For my shoes I went for comfort; I had a simple Rainbow Club pair for the day and for the dance floor I switched to a gold pair of sneakers.

A Spring barn wedding in the countryside

I worked for catering companies at a lot of weddings when I was growing up, my favourites were in a marquee on the edge of a Cornish cliff.
I was a bit worried about getting a marquee myself because of the extra costs required and the changeable British weather.

I also loved simple barn venues so that's what I decided on. After searching in Surrey and Sussex I found Fitzleroi Barn. It was super relaxed and the ladies there are so helpful.

I wanted a traditional British Spring wedding in the countryside. The colours were inspired by Cornwall, where we met. Each of the tables were named after Cornish beaches. The top table Mawgan Porth, where Roddy proposed.

The best bits

I loved the morning spent getting ready with the ladies and the arrival the beautiful flowers hand-delivered by Laura.

The readings in the ceremony were also very special to me. My highlight was simply having everyone we love together in one place.

It was all a bit if a blur of happiness, so it was great to have a moment of calm when we meditated in a field behind the venue with our photographer Jay.

...not forgetting the speeches and the dance floor!

Lucy's Advice

Try on the dress you least expect to choose – it might be the one that you feel most comfortable in!
